Sustainability

Three main qualities of data or information that are critical, are Availability, Reliability, and Relevance. Of course there are other vital characteristics of good information but these are very important. When these characteristics are consistently met, the information becomes Sustainable.

For the non-living things 'Sustainability' or 'Durability' is decreasing in it's importance. People change cars every two years, laptops every year, mobile phones every six months, and clothes every two months. But 'Sustainability' is becoming increasingly important for people; for humans. One has to be sustainable to be able to survive. One has to be ahead of time and ready for the next change. But 'Sustainability' for humans is too dynamic of a concept to be measured in a particular set of criteria. It cannot be just strength, it cannot be intelligence, it cannot be luck either. It is about all this and much more. Precisely,

Sustainability = Capability > Possibility

If no one is looking at you

Our actions depend on our thoughts. While that being said to be true on most of the occasions, it is also true that our actions depend on people's actions and reactions. A simple scenario is when people are watching you. It is then that you become conscious of your actions. Inversely, you either feel free or left out, if no one cares.

This is what mostly happens but it surely isn't the ideal way to respond. Watching ourselves is more important than anything else. You can safely ignore the surroundings if you are watching yourself. Still the ideal way to think; and a general principle that one should embed in his/her thoughts I feel, is that,

If everyone is looking at you, understand, that you are better. If no one is looking at you, understand, that you are unique.

लेव्हल

टीव्ही वर; म्हणजे दूरदर्शन वाहिनीवर एक जाहिरात येते, प्रबोधनपर. त्यात एक कुत्रा असतो जो माणसांसाठीचा रस्ता ओलांडण्याचा सिग्नल हिरवा होईपर्यंत वाट बघून मग रस्ता ओलांडतो; आणि बाकी अनेक व्यक्ती ज्या हे असलं काहीही न करता रस्ता दिसेल तशा धावत सुटतात. ती आणि तशा अनेक जाहिराती दाखवून झाल्या पण गाढवापुढे... ची गोष्ट चालूच आहे. या विषयाचाच कंटाळा येतो आता. मी लाल सिग्नल ला मान देऊन उभा असतो शांतपणे आणि माझ्या मागून गाड्या येतात; हा काय ****** आहे बघा ! अशा आविर्भावाने बाजूने सिग्नल तोडून निघून जातात. या अशाच लोकांना ‘रांगेचा फायदा सर्वांना’ हे शाळेत किंवा त्यांच्या आईबाबांनी शिकवलेलं नसतं, त्याना QUEUE म्हटलं की हिंदीतलं ‘क्यूं?’म्हणायचं कळतं. त्यांना BMW मधून बाहेर थुकण्यात ‘स्टेटस’ वाटतो. त्यांना अशिक्षित म्हटलेलं झोंबतं, मग ते मवाल्यासारख्या शिव्या देतात. थोडक्यात काय,

लाटण्याची लाट

आजकाल गोष्टी लुबाडण्याचा, लाटण्याचा, हिसकावण्याचा, बळकावण्याचा ट्रेंड आहे. त्यामुळे तिकिटाच्या रांगेतील जागेपासून ते शाळा-कॉलेज मधल्या जागेपर्यंत, बस-ट्रेन मधल्या सीटपासून ते राजकारणातल्या सीट पर्यंत, अध्यक्षपदं, अ‍ॅवॉर्डस पासून ते विजेतेपदं, रिवॉर्डस पर्यंत सगळ्या गोष्टी लाटल्या जातात, बळकावल्या जातात. मग लुबाडणा-यांना विजयसुख आणि लुबाडलं गेलेल्यांना वैफल्य असं हे समीकरण पूर्ण होतं.

जमिनी, मालमत्ता, या तर लाटल्या जाणा-या गोष्टींपैकी हिट गोष्टी. आता तर त्यांच्याबरोबर देवही लाटले जातायत. त्यांच्यावर हक्क सांगितले जातायत. दैवतं लाटली जातायत, देवळं लाटली जातायत. 

‘पण असं आहे की, जमीन लुबाडता येते, जमिनीवरचं प्रेम लुबाडता येत नाही. पदं, पदव्या हिरावून घेता येतात पण त्यांच्यासाठीची पात्रता हिरावून घेता येत नाही. लोकप्रियता लाटता येते, पण लोकमान्यता लाटता येत नाही.... देव लाटता येतील; पण भक्ती लाटता येत नाही. देवत्व तर त्याहून नाही.’

Bridge

Feed Your Interests

Everything in life is time bound. And everything remains time bound. It is us who have to catch up or else give up. The sun never waits till you set up your camera. Rain never waits till you open your umbrella. You have to grab things before it is too late. So is the case with interests, hobbies, desires and madnesses. Once you leave them unattended and once they are off, they do not knock your door no matter how badly you want them to.

आणखी एक गंधर्व

एखादी व्यक्ती नुसतीच यशस्वी होउन भागत नाही. ते यश असं प्रदीप्त व्हायला त्या व्यक्तीला एखादी उपाधी, एखादी पदवी किंवा आदरयुक्त प्रेमाने ठेवलेलं नाव असणं हे आजकाल गरजेचं आहे. तरच मग मजा आहे. आता भारताचे एक आघाडीचे संगीत दिग्दर्शक घ्या ना. इतका फॅन आहे मी त्यांचा म्हणून सांगू; मीच काय देशभरात, अवघ्या विश्वात त्याचे कोट्यावधी फॅन्स आहेत. हमराज़, तेरे नाम, आशिक बनाया आपने, रेडियो, कर्झ्झ्झ्झ, बॉडिगार्ड, नुकतेच आलेले सन ऑफ सरदार आणि खिलाडी ७८६, असे अनेक सिनेमे त्यांनी आपल्या संगीत दिग्दर्शनाने खुलवलेले, नव्हे, एकहाती गाजवलेले आहेत. आणि हे केवळ गाण्याबद्दल झालं; त्यांचा अभिनय, लेखन, दिग्दर्शन हे स्वतंत्र विषय आहेत बरं का.

गाणं हे गळ्यातूनच नव्हे तर नाकातूनही गाता येतं हे खरं तर त्यांनी पटवून दिलं जगाला. काय सूर लागतो त्यांच्या नाकाचा. आहाहाहा! व्वेड लागतं. ही कला भारतात दुस-या कुणालाही अवगत नाही असं म्हटलं तर वावगं ठरू नये. त्यांच्यासारखे तेच. एकमेव.

प्रतिभावंत माणूस.... पण एखादीही उपाधी, पदवी अशी अजून त्याच्या नावासमोर नाही. असायला पाहिजे बुवा. सारेगमप मधे रॉकस्टार वगैरे म्हणून संबोधतात त्याला, पण त्यात दम नाही. पदवी कशी जबरदस्त पाहिजे. 

हाच विचार करताना मी एक लहान नाकी, आय मीन, लहान तोंडी मोठा घास घेतोय, आणि त्यांना एक उपाधी देतोय. ‘नाकगंधर्व’ ! त्यांचा सन्मान करायला हे कमीच आहे म्हणा, पण तरीही. 

Respect, Love, Fear

Do not ever bother about what people think about you. It never helps. It never lets you be yourself. Instead, be yourself, while being true to yourself, and do what your heart asks you to. Be assured, that;

Falsity

If you show, it shows. Those who act, take the credit. The world is like this. More often than not, real talent is overshadowed by the fakers who pretend to know it all and make every attempt to show that. And the world more often than not, believes what it sees and does not care to look beyond that. And more so, the ones who are 'successful' by that way, always take the spotlight.

One may like it or not, but this is how the world is today.

उपमा आणि तुलना / Comparisons and Connections

काही गोष्टींचा विचार करताना त्यांचा इतर काही गोष्टींशी इतका जवळचा संबंध असल्याचं जाणवतं; त्या दोन गोष्टींमधे इतकं साधर्म्य दिसतं की तुलना केल्याशिवाय, आणि उपमा दिल्याशिवाय राहवत नाही. अशाच काही  तुलना माझ्या मनाने केलेल्या इथे मांडतो. त्या किती योग्य, किती रास्त आहेत ते ज्याचं त्याने ठरवावं, आणि काही उणं अधिक झालं असेल तर सोडून द्यावं.

Apple is like Amir Khan of IT. Obsessed with excellence. The outcomes of the obsession are genuinely good. It is never involved in the petty rivalries with the competition and keeps raising the bar, for self and for others. Hence, it is class apart and is respected.

मुंबई म्हणजे भारताची अमेरिका आहे

Mumbai is the USA of India. People fancy it. They want to come here to earn more money. They come here with the intention to work and then end up settling down. Under the name of Liberty, they try to override the existing culture of the place, treat it like their own yard, and pollute it somehow.

भारत म्हणजे जगासाठी फेसबुक आहे

India is like Facebook for the world. Every company, country wants to have its presence here. Those who have it are enjoying its benefits. Those who don't are curious about it. They also create amusing profiles once they are here. It also has apps like TaxVille, PoliticsVille, PeoplePuppets etc.

भरली वांगी (बाहेरची)

ब्राम्हणी, कोकणी, कोल्हापुरी, पंजाबी, साउथ इंडियन, पुढे, इटालियन, मेक्सिकन वगैरे असं क्विझीन्स चं वर्गीकरण होण्याआधी; मुळात घरगुती आणि बाहेरचं असे खाण्याचे दोन मुख्य वर्ग होतात. बाहेरचं; म्हणजेच कॅटरर्स कडे उपलब्ध होणारं किंवा हॉटेल मधे मिळणारं खाणं, हे कितीही घरगुती म्हटलं तरी घरासारखं नसतंच. हे जागतिक सत्य आहे. अपवाद असतील; त्यांनी कृपया क्षमा करावी मला या वाक्याबद्दल. पण हे सत्य आहे. कारण एक व्यवसाय आहे आणि दुसरा नाहीये.
तर हे हॉटेल किंवा कॅटरर्स चं जे क्विझीन असतं ते;... छान असतं, पण बहुतांश पदार्थ इथे ट्रान्स्फॉर्म झालेले असतात. या बदलाचे पुन्हा दोन प्रकार आहेत.  काही पदार्थांची नावं तीच रहातात पण तो पदार्थ अंतर्बाह्य बदलतो. उलट, काही पदार्थ बदलत नाहीत पण त्यांच्या नावांत पराकोटीचे बदल होतात.

अनेक उदाहरणं देता येतील पण फार ‘चवीने’ आठवावं आणि लिहावं लागेल. आत्ता एकच उदाहरण सांगतो जे चटकन डोक्यात येतंय. ‘भरली वांगी.’ जगातली एक नंबर भाजी. त्याचं या हॉटेल/कॅटरर क्विझीन मधलं रूप भारी निराशाजनक असतं.

‘कॅटरर्सनी/हॉटेलवाल्यांनी ‘भरली वांगी’ या पदार्थाचं नाव ‘भारली वांगी’ असं ठेवलं पाहिजे. कारण भरली वांगी म्हणून त्यात ‘भरलेलं’ काहीच नसतं. आणि ती मसाल्यात शिजवलेल्या तेलाने (आय मीन, तेलात शिजवलेल्या मसाल्याने) ‘भारलेली’ असतात.’

Peace of Mind

Sometimes, the funny ways in which people pronounce some words or the strange accents that they put on, give interesting perspectives to look at some things. 'Peace' was the word and it was pronounced as 'Piss' by a person I was talking to. Then the usual mind churning; and the perspective that I got was this.

3 Things that you get in Life

Success has not remained an easy formula especially at places like India. Hell no. Hard Work + Dedication and such stuff sounds so bullshit in today's time. Good to be taught and told though. But definitely not easy to really hold on to.
Principly, I agree that hard work, dedication, strong will are all the key factors that one needs to be successful. But in reality; you either have to beg for things; or you have to be really strong and fight for your right and may be steal; or simply empty your pocket. And so I say,

'You get only Three things in life.
Things you bend for,
Things you offend for, and
Things you spend for.'

In Demand

A person feels good when people are looking for him. A person feels good when he is required by many. Running around for many is always better than running around for one. It feels like you are 'spread out' yet 'integrated'. It doesn't so happen when you are following the instruction of one person. 

Its the difference between a tiger in the jungle and a tiger in a cage in the zoo. Its the difference between a mango on a tree and a mango in a plate. You know,

'Its good to be in demand, than to be in control.'

Being there

No two people walking on the same road reach the same destination in the same way and in the same amount of time. Though their destination is the same, everything else turns out to be distinct. Even in schools and colleges where 50 students in a class are taught the same syllabus by the same teachers using the same text books and in the same manner; few just score very easily; smooth as silk; where many others struggle hard to survive in the race. 

Some people find the right ways, meet the right people, do the right things; just like they know it all or like it is coming to them as planned. Luck, Talent, Confidence, Hard-Work are all different sides of the same cube.

Exercise - 2

'I shall begin exercise once I am a little free', My friend was telling me. I have seen so many people and heard many such responses. 'I will start working out next month, next week, after my exams, after I come back from this trip, after this, after that and the list of excuses goes on. In fact one need not even wait for the next day to start exercising. When I say that, I admit that I too, have made such statements and I have hated myself for that. I still do. But at the same time, I believe that

'There is no SEASON to begin exercising; and there is no REASON to stop it.'

(अ)व्यवस्थितपणा

शर्ट, पॅंट किंवा काहीही, हातात घ्यायचं, गोल गोल असं ४ वेळा फिरवायचं, की जो गोळा तयार होतो तो एका हातात धरायचा, दुस-या हाताने खण उघडायचा, आणि तो गोळा मोकळ्या जागेत नेम धरून भिरकवायचा. अशीच असते ना कपडे ठेवायची पद्धत ! कपडे काय, किंवा इतर कुठलीही गोष्ट काय, साधारण अशाच पद्धतीने ठेवायची, किंवा काढायची असते. म्हणजे, जगात एक मोठ्ठा वर्ग आहे जो ही पद्धत योग्य मानतो.

दुसरा जो वर्ग आहे तो एक ‘व्यवस्थितपणा’ नावाची थियरी आहे, त्यावर विश्वास ठेवतो. त्यानुसार कपड्यांची घडी करणं, गोष्टींचे रकाने राखीव ठेवणं, वह्या, पुस्तके, कागद वगैरे गोष्टींचं वर्गीकरण करणं वगैरे क्रीया करायच्या असतात. त्यांच्या मते:-
१) असं केल्याने गोष्टी हव्या तेंव्हा पटकन मिळतात. (पण असंच पहिल्या वर्गालाही वाटतं.)
२) असं केल्याने खण/खोली नीटनेटके दिसतात. (पहिल्या वर्गाच्या मते हे मानण्यावर आहे.)

तर अशी मतांतरं आहेत. दोन्ही वर्ग आपापल्या पद्धतींवर ठाम आहेत. त्यांना आपापल्या पद्धतीच फायदेशीर वाटतात. आणि त्यामागील कारणंही तितकीच सबळ वाटतात. पण यामुळे घरोघरी जिथे हे दोन वर्ग एकत्र नांदतात, तिकडे त्यांत खटके उडत असतात. मी पहिल्या वर्गात मोडतो. :D
तर; ‘बॉटम लाईन’ अशी आहे की,

‘अव्यवस्थितपणातला जो कम्फर्ट आहे ना कम्फर्ट, तो व्यवस्थित लोकांना कधीच कळणार नाही’

Old is Cold

Cold has been like an old friend to me. Always there with me, all the way, all the time. Too bad of a topic to post on my blog. But just when things cross the 'Zone of Normality', that is when they become 'mentionable'.

My nose has become like a platform on Dadar Railway Station. Just when you get a feeling that it is getting cleared up a bit, it gets packed again. You don't understand from where does it come, you don't understand how.
